Graffiti 101
The Fine Art of Graffiti, a Wild-Style of painting from history, can-control. Creative lettering, Characters, fill-ins to major burners to be painted on and off-site. The class is designed for anyone interested in understanding the artistry and historical evolution of Graffiti as a visual art-form of the Hip-Hop movement. This class does not encourage or support any criminal activity: i.e., gang-affiliation/ representation or vandalism.

16th Street Theater Apprenticeship
For those serious about theater-making who are able to commit to an intense schedule, 16th Street Theater is looking for highly motivated apprentices in acting, directing, playwriting, stage management, technical theater and design to participate in rehearsals for its production of the Ascension of Carlotta. Days and times vary, but mostly evenings and weekends. Those interested in learning hands-on theater skills in a professional setting should request an appointment for an interview with 16th Street Theater’s Artistic Director Ann Filmer.

West Side Stories Youth Project
Be a part of an exciting teen theater ensemble led by Kimberly Senior (Steppenwolf Theatre, Court Theatre). Students will learn performance and writing skills in a professional, yet nurturing environment. They will create their own original plays based on stories about the community of Berwyn: past, present and future with a final performance held in conjunction with Berwyn’s centennial celebration in June! This is a free program for Berwyn residents. No more than 16 will be chosen for this ensemble. Since space is very limited, we ask that only those serious about the commitment apply.
NOTE: Only 16 teens will be chosen! Pick up an application at NBPD or download and get more info from the 16th Street Theater web site. Date of final performance(s) TBA

Little Theater
Do you have aspirations of starring on Broadway? Well you can start with the Little Theater program at the North Berwyn Park District. This class will help you build on your confidence and stage presence. Your artistic abilities will be showcased for all to see. Previous plays performed by the group include: Guys & Dolls, The Pirates of Penzance, and Godspell. This years production will be Disney’s Aladdin. No experience is necessary.

We are offering a course that appeals to both and combines creative expression with technology for today’s emerging careers. Web authoring, web design, and blogging – learn to publish pictures and text on the web with the most current software available. No prior experience necessary. This class will focus on the generation of original poems and prose designed for performance in a spoken-word and theatre format. "Lit-art-ture Magazine"
This is a widely encompassing literary magazine using pictures and words to tell stories. The review and its content are fueled by the creativity and the stories of the young and elderly of Berwyn gathered in the West Side Stories Project. Research processes, production and communities are brought together to address and review the growth and evolution as well as the needs of this thriving town and its residents. Reading and seeing each others’ stories in the gallery, online and in the class, a unifying self-awareness and interconnectedness are born, which are transformative and enriching. Writing a Play
Ever wanted to write a play? Or want to brush up and advance your playwriting skills? This class is designed for both beginners and those with experience who wish to write for theater and share their work in a supportive, yet challenging environment. Through fun writing exercises, at-home assignments, and in-class readings, you will learn the essentials of good playwriting, including character development, plot structure, dialogue, and dramatic conflict. The class will culminate in readings of your work performed by professional actors! Taught by 16th Street Theater’s playwright-in-residence Will Dunne.
NOTE: Participants will be invited to first rehearsal of Will Dunne’s play the Ascension of Carlotta on Monday March 3 at 7:00 pm.
