Tae Kwon Do is the Korean art of Self Defense. The instructor at the North Berwyn Park District, Randall Dittman, has been teaching professionally since 1975. He holds a 6th degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and a 2nd degree Black Belt in judo. The Tae Kwon Do and Self Defense programs have been running at the North Berwyn Park District since 1989, with classes being held 12 months a year. Students range from ages 6-60. No less than 7 of the program's students have reached the level of 1st degree Black Belt. -top- Tae Kwon Do for Beginners Age: 5 - 15 8 weeks Learn the basic fundamentals of the Korean art of selfdefense, including kicks, blocks, and punches! No martial arts experience needed for this class. Here’s the opportunity for you to take a self defense course and moves up the belt ranking ladder. If you are a returning student, you may qualify for the next belt level. Great for developing self-esteem and self-confidence!
Intermediate/Advanced Tae Kwon Do Age: 6 - 15 8 weeks Students holding a rank of Yellow Belt or higher will receive advanced instruction. Sparring and advanced form practice will be highlighted. Beginners need instructor’s permission to enroll in this class.
Tae Kwon Do for Adults Age: 17 - Adult 8 weeks Beginning students will learn the fundamentals of Tae Kwon Do. Returning students will receive advanced instruction with the opportunity for promotion to the next belt level. This class also serves as a great work out!
Self Defense/Fitness for Women Age: 17 - Adult 8 weeks This class combines the techniques of TaeKwon-Do, Judo, and Hapki-Do to provide practical self-defense applications for women. It is also an exciting workout! Blocking, striking, kicking, and throws will be mixed in to give you the informative workout you need. A certificate of completion is awarded at the end of the session.
Capoeira Angola Age: 5 - Adult 8 weeks The African – Brazilian martial art of Capoeira Angola is being offered in ongoing classes. Capoeira combines dance, music, ritual and acrobatic martial movements into an enjoyable game that is as fun to watch as it is to play. Good for improving general fitness, flexibility, agility, problem solving and team building skills and serves as a good channel for energy. Special Notes: Registered Participants will learn to play the Berimbau, Atabaque, Pandeiro, Agogo, Reco Reco, sing in Portuguese while learning self-defense, and improvisation.
