16th Street Theater- Downtime in the Green Room by Gary Arnold

With the 2025 movie version of “Snow White” as a launchpad, “Downtime in the Green Room” goes behind the scenes for two seasons of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular stage production in Chicago and it takes a front seat at the table with the Public Relations Director of Little People of America.  

Storytellers reflect on a spectrum of experiences that shape the portrayal of little people in popular culture and on attempts to change that portrayal.

about Gary Arnold:
Gary Arnold has spent over 20 years working with nonprofit disability organizations, including Access Living in Chicago and Progress Center in Forest Park. He currently works with the Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities, a state agency focused on inclusion. A person with dwarfism, Gary served on the Little People of America Board of Directors from 2006–2017, including roles as Public Relations Director and President. He lives in Oak Park with his wife and son and served as Chair of Oak Park’s Disability Access Commission from 2022–2025.

A lifelong storyteller, Gary now brings his personal and professional stories to stages across Chicagoland. He regularly performs at local storytelling events and open mics and, in October 2025, won the MOTH Story Slam at Fitzgerald’s in Berwyn. He looks forward to continuing to share stories in 2026 and beyond.
